More than 200 monkeys from a nearby forest
Have made the estate in the tea-rich district their new home—
1,700 workers have been forced to lock doors and
Move in groups while plucking tea leaves.

Workers are terrified as monkeys snatch food from their children—
Because of the sentiments of the workers
We cannot hurt the monkeys.

Thousands of people are having sleepless nights—
Maids weep as they trade tales of sightings.
People are sleeping in groups for greater protection.

10 Persons were bit in the last few days—
Villagers demand that Either the monkeys should be caught
Or be killed by the authorities so that people might have respite.

The attacks by the monkeys have caused panic in the village
And the villagers are forced to move in groups.

Thakur’s Ear

The child in the officer took hold
And he made some gestures at the simians.
At this, a monkey sprang from a nearby ledge onto Thakur's shoulder.
It pulled at his hair and then climbed up a wall.

Thakur again called out to the monkey, which obliged. It came down to his shoulder, but
This time it snatched his spectacles.

Thakur did not lose patience.
He began calling the monkey again,
This time to retrieve his glasses.

The simian must have suspected something.
It threw away the glasses and again jumped on to Thakur's shoulder.

It pulled his head, bit off his left ear, and fled.

Bloodied and screaming, Thakur slumped on the road. His neighbors rushed out and took him to hospital.

Minyak’s Courtship

Minyak wheezed as he dangled his arms
And gazed down at Kalim.
"Here she comes,”
He looks at her, as she crosses the room
And purses her pouty lips.
“This is always exciting,” he thinks.
"What do you think, Kalim?" he asks.

Minyak's courtship is a marvel.

Two years ago he was holed up in a muggy cement-floor research facility in Atlanta with a chest full of trouble and no friends.

But, LA was dry and sunny.
All went well until the first winter rains when Minyak took a turn for the worse—too sick for the public eye.

As wildfires raged across Southern California, the company offered to purify his bedroom so he could once again breathe easily.

With the slight asthmatic wheeze it was still hoped he might one day be ready to again meet the public.

Now, while Kalim flirts, Minyak basks in the sunshine and watches with lowered eyes.

"He's obviously very interested. He's doing much better than we ever thought he would.” Said Kalim to a group of admirerers.
